Breakfast and Snack Times

Each morning a breakfast will be offered from 9:00 to 9:30 AM: A choice of cereal, cheese or beans on toast or porridge will be offered. Please see the notice board for details. A drink of milk or water will also be available. We realise that some children will already have had breakfast at home; if this is so your child will be offered a drink and a selection of fruit and vegetables will be available throughout the session, if they feel they want something to eat. This time will also be used to provide children with the social aspect of meal times and a time where they can share news with the group.

At snack time in the afternoon, a selection of fresh fruit and vegetables will eb offered, and again the social aspect and opportunities will be provided.

It is our aim that children will be given the opportunity to help self-serve breakfast and help prepare snack making an activity in itself.

Water is available at all times for children if they are thirsty in between times.

Lunch Time

Lunch is at a cost of £5.25, or is offered as part of our afternoon session. Children bring in their own packed lunch in accordance with our Healthy Eating Policy. Once they have finished eating, they are able to partake in free play until group time begins at 1:00 PM.

Healthy Eating Policy

At the Laurels Playschool, we believe that promoting healthy eating practices in young children is very important.By offering a wide range of healthy foods at our breakfast and snack times, we give children the opportunity to develop a healthy diet by learning about what foods are good for them and how these foods affect their bodies. We therefore will provide healthy foods and balanced meals within the setting. Whilst lunch boxes are provided by parents for their children, we ask that they follow our guidelines, which are as follows:

  • Healthy savoury items i.e. sandwiches, salads, pasta, soup, pitta breads, beans, etc.
  • Dairy products such as cheese, yoghurt and fromage frais
  • Fruit and vegetables
  • Fruit juice drinks

The following items should be discouraged:

  • Pies and sausage based products
  • Chocolate spread and jam fillings
  • Cakes
  • Jellies
  • Crisps
  • Biscuits
  • Chocolate and sweets
  • Fizzy drinks

We believe that by following these healthy practises, children will have a higher level of understanding of healthy eating and will be given the opportunity to develop their tastes towards healthy foods.
